Solo Performance
THEA 286
Spring 2026
| Section:
01
|
This course focuses on the expansive ways we can tell stories through our own voice and body. Over the course of the semester, students will explore and create solo performance through a generative process of creative research, prompts, and experiments. We will read and view the work of historic and contemporary solo performance artists to connect with lineage and learn about various elements they utilize including autobiographical material, found text, visuals, sound, and movement. Students will draw from personal, familial, cultural histories, and contemporary conditions, bringing their own embodied archive into the room. Each student will be supported in finding and strengthening their unique voice as performer and maker, and the class itself will function as a rehearsal room, a collective space of dramaturgy for each person's work. The course will culminate in final showings of each student's work. This course counts towards the Theater Arts category for the THEA major. |
