Mohandas K. Gandhi's life has been the subject of enormous scholarly, philosophical, and artistic reflection. In this sophomore seminar, we will seek to understand the man himself, his transition from Mohandas to Mahatma, and the history that surrounded him. We will learn in the process about the historian's craft, including how to find sources, use a library, and make an argument. |

Weekly essays, presentations, active seminar involvement, and a long research essay based on primary sources and shaped by an understanding of the relevant secondary sources. |

All readings to be done prior to seminar session to facilitate class discussion. Papers must be submitted on time. Penalty for late submission of work: 1 letter grade per day. Work is considered at least one day late if it is not submitted by the deadline. |
