Certificates: The Study of Education |
This course will introduce the concepts and methods used in the analysis of quantitative data in the behavioral and life sciences. The approach will emphasize activity-based learning. Lectures will be used for the initial presentation and wrap-up of topics, but most class time will be devoted to activities in which students perform analyses. The topics covered will include descriptive statistics, sampling distributions, estimation, hypothesis testing, analysis of variance, and regression. |

Examinations and Assignments: Weekly problem sets and computer lab reports, three in-class conceptual and problem-solving tests, and a final test and computer lab report. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Students who are considering PSYC or NS&B as a major must take this course graded. All sections of this course will satisfy the statistics requirement for the PSYC major and the methodological requirement for the NS&B major.
Students not admitted to the class during preregistration and adjustment will be admitted on the first day of class if seats become available (i.e., the class cannot exceed the 20-student limit). In this case, priority will be given to individuals on the electronic enrollment request list who are PSYC/NS&B majors and/or have previously unsuccessfully requested the course. Because the course often has a long enrollment request list and limited computers, please do not email the instructor directly; she will not be able to respond to individual emails. |
