Examinations and Assignments:
Grading will be based primarily on the consistency and thoroughness with which students practice the assigned materials. There will be 1-2 required performances during the semester. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Music reading is necessary. Undergraduates may take this course up to two times for a letter grade and up to four times for credit towards graduation.
Audition requirements: Be prepared to play a medium or up-tempo bebop tune or standard. Interpret melody and demonstrate ability to improvise over the chord changes. Rhythm section players should also demonstrate instrument-appropriate accompaniment skills on the same tune (comping for guitar and piano, walking lines for bass, etc.). Jazz-relevant sight-reading will also be expected.
