This performance course is designed for students who can already play the guitar and read music to some extent. The lectures will involve finger style, guitar technique studies, and repertoire ranging from classical to traditional music from around the world. In a final concert, the students will perform works matching their technical level. |

Essential Capabilities:
Designing, Creating, and Realizing, Intercultural Literacy
Designing, creating, and realizing: The course teaches students primarily to perform, but also to discuss and analyze this specific music. Emphasis will be on the original design and presentation of certain genres and styles. A concert at the end of the semester will be part of the assignments.
Intercultural Literacy: By studying music from different nationality, ethnic group, or historical period, students will gain knowledge of cross-cultural encounter; hence promoting a comparative reflection.

Ability to play guitar. Attendance mandatory. Undergraduates may take this course up to two times for a letter grade and up to four times for credit towards graduation.
Auditions for enrollment will be held on Friday, September 9, 2011, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in Music Studios 312. A classical guitar for each student is required. |
