Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
The POI application deadline is the Monday after preregistration begins at 5:00 pm.
Permission of Instructor approval will be granted during preregistration through the Electronic Portfolio. To apply, students should add the course to their list of courses in the system and submit a POI request electronically. In addition, applicants must email Professor Sawhney (hsawhney@wesleyan.edu) a single document containing five double-spaced pages of fiction, a cover page that includes their name, email address, class year, major if any, the course number, some favorite writers and other influences, and a short biographical paragraph describing their creative writing background, as well as a list of previous creative writing courses they have taken.
Applications should be submitted as a .docx file named with the format ¿Last Name-First Initial¿ (for example, Kapoor-R.docx). Students will be notified electronically of the status of their application before the end of preregistration. Those who miss the preregistration deadline may submit their materials directly to hsawhney@wesleyan.edu in mid-January, up to the week before classes begin, in case any last-minute openings are available.
It is strongly recommended that students enroll in only one Creative Writing course per semester. If a student is admitted to more than one course, they must choose one and notify the instructors during the Adjustment Period. Applicants are asked to make this choice seriously out of consideration for instructors and fellow students.
This course contributes to the fulfillment of English major requirements, including the Creative Writing requirement, CW 300-level courses, upper-level workshops, and electives.
