Fiction by authors such as, Angela Carter, Lydia Davis, Amy Hempel, Denis Johnson, Mary Gaitskill, Franz Kafka, Yasunari Kawabata, Roberto Bolaño, Jamaica Kincaid, and others.

Examinations and Assignments:
Six short exercises in various elements of fiction, two short stories, one revision, and two short craft papers. Attendance at every class required. There is a workshop component to this course so participating in class discussions is essential. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Students are also required to attend 2-3 events per semester with visiting writers (these are scheduled on Wednesday afternoons and evenings; Q & A sessions at 4:15 and readings at 8:00 p.m.). Enrolled students must adjust their schedules accordingly. Students may not take this course and a creative writing workshop concurrently. |
