Beginning American Sign Language II

Beginning American Sign Language II will provide a continuation of the work done in LANG190. The course will cover grammatical and linguistic material in some depth, as well as teaching additional vocabulary. There will also be a focus on students' use of the language in class to improve their conversational abilities. The course will also introduce students to deaf culture and the signing community and will include ethnographic and analytical readings related to culture, linguistics, and interpretation.

Essential Capabilities: Intercultural Literacy
This course will focus on developing proficiency in American Sign Language by addressing all skills of language learning, including both expressive and receptive skills. Incorporated into class activities, assignments and with the use of authentic materials, students will also gain an understanding of the unique cultural concepts and values of the Deaf community in the United States, which will help students gain intercultural literacy.
