Examinations and Assignments:
In 1913, George W. Veditz, president of the National Association of the Deaf, conveyed in an old movie that American Sign Language (ASL) is at the core of Deaf identity. He is oft quoted when he signed, "As long as we have deaf people on Earth, we will have signs, and as long as we have our films, we can preserve our beautiful sign language in its original purity. It is our hope that we all will love and guard our beautiful sign language as the noblest gift God has given to deaf people." Our classes will be very interactive and focus on the visual/conceptual nature of American Sign Language (ASL) which is neither spoken, nor written. Receptive/expressive skill quizzes, video journaling, weekly Deaf culture readings with written reactions, a research project, and a final expressive skills video are all on tap! |
