This course will be an intensive investigation of Shakespeare's language and characters through sonnet, soliloquy, and scene study and may culminate in a group performance. Students will conduct research into Shakespeare's sources and the context in which his plays have been performed. They will engage in the challenges of acting Shakespeare and the vocal work and text analysis necessary for bringing his heightened use of language to life. |

The RSC Shakespeare: The Complete Works (specific titles to be determined by the instructor). Shakespeare's Words: A Glossary and Language Companion.

Examinations and Assignments: Monologues and scenes presented in class. One major paper/presentation. A final group presentation. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Students with appropriate pre-requisite should request a POI in their portfolio during preregistration. They will be notified with information regarding audition/interview times. Students will be required to present a two-minute Shakespeare monologue in verse, memorized and prepared.
Due to the instructor's prior professional engagements, THEA311 will not meet on 9/8, 9/13, and 9/15. Required makeup classes will take place on 9/10 and 9/17, from 9:30am-noon and 12/9 time TBD. Please contact the instructor if you have a conflict and need to make a different arrangement by the second week of classes. |
