This course may be repeated for credit.
Course Cluster and Certificates: African Studies, African Studies Minor, Queer Studies

This course examines choreography and its performance as an embodied experience. Students will research a theme-specific topic and participate in the creation of a contemporary work under the direction, guidance, and mentorship of a faculty choreographer. The class will serve as a laboratory for experimenting with the performance techniques and evolving methodologies of the teaching artist, preparing the student for the practice of embodied research. The work involves watching video projections, reading and discussing scholarly writings to source the content for the choreography and will use individual and group movement and writing exercises and assignments in and out of class to delve into the collaborative creative process that will culminate in a performance that will be performed for the public at the end of the semester. This course is open to movers of all backgrounds who are interested in the intersections of dance and social action
