Examinations and Assignments:
Weekly or biweekly poetry submissions; constructive oral and written peer critiques; a few brief response papers; a final portfolio consisting of a 15-page collection of revised poems and a statement of poetics. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
To apply to this course, please submit 5-7 pages of poetry along with a cover page in two sections: 1) your name, email address, year in school, major (if any), some of your favorite writers and any other influences; 2) a short biographical statement (a paragraph) describing your history with and interest in poetry and/or other forms of writing. If you are applying to more than one POI creative writing course, you must indicate your order of preference.
The application deadline is Monday, November 4, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. Please submit your materials electronically in a single attachment to ewillis@wesleyan.edu. Please use either Microsoft Word or rich-text-format for your attachment. You will be notified electronically if you have been admitted (or not) to the course. Students may not take this course and another creative writing course concurrently.
Students are also requir! ed to attend several events per semester with visiting writers (usually scheduled on Wednesday afternoons at 4:15 and evenings at 8:00 p.m.). Enrolled students must adjust their schedules accordingly.
This course contributes to the English major's Creative Writing Concentration and its Theory and Literary Forms Concentration. |
