This seminar-style course will focus on the reading and constructive discussion of poetry submitted by members of the workshop. We will explore an extensive reading list of contemporary poetry as well as philosophies of art-making written by both writers and artists. A final book arts project--consisting of 15 pages of revised poetry and a statement of poetics--is due at the end of the semester. |

Biweekly poetry submissions; constructive oral and written peer critiques; a final book arts project consisting of a 15-page collection of revised poems and a statement of poetics. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Meetings with and readings by visiting writers will be an additional element of the course.
The application deadline is Friday, November 3rd at 4:00 PM.
Application Process: (1) Go to the Creative Writing page of the English Department website at: http://www.wesleyan.edu/english/writing, click on the Google Form link and complete the online application. (2) At the bottom of the form please upload the following in one document: 5 single-spaced pages of poetry. Please also submit a cover page that includes the following: 1) your name, email address, year in school, major (if any), the number of this course, some of your favorite writers and any other influences 2) a short biographical statement (a paragraph) describing your creative writing background. Please use either Microsoft Word or rich text format for your attachment, with the file name: "Last Name-First Initial-Course Number" (e.g. Smith-J-ENGL337.docx). You will be notified electronically of the status of your application by the end of the Planning Period. Students may not take this course and another creative writing course concurrently. This course contributes to the English major Theory and Literary Forms and Creative Writing concentrations. |
