Examinations and Assignments:
There will be bi-weekly presentations on the poets we read, in-class writing and reading experiments, and workshops of one another's creative work. The class will culminate in a book arts project and reflective essay. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
This course contributes to the fulfillment of ENGL major requirements: CW requirement, CW 300-level course, CW upper-level workshop.
The application deadline is November 4 (the Monday after the start of preregistration) at 5:00 PM.
Application Process: Permission of instructor approval will be granted by the instructor during pre-registration through the Electronic Portfolio. Click "Add to My Courses" and "To request a POI electronically, click here" to submit your request. In addition, please email dvogel@wesleyan.edu the following in one PDF document: a) 5 pages of poetry b) a cover page that includes the following: your name, email address, class year, major (if any); the number of this course; some of your favorite poets and any other influences; a short biographical statement (a paragraph) describing your creative writing background. c) list the creative writing course(s) with professors you have taken previous to this one. Please email your application in PDF format, with the file name: "Last Name-First Initial" (e.g. Smith-J.pdf). You will be notified electronically of the status of your application by November 15. Students who have missed this deadline may submit materials directly to dvogel@wesleyan.edu in mid-January up to the week before classes begin, in case there are any last-minute openings."
It is highly recommended that students be enrolled in only one Creative Writing course in a semester. If you are admitted to more than one Creative Writing course, you will choose one and let the instructors know during Adjustment Period. Please be serious about your choice for the consideration of instructors and other students.
