This seminar-style course will focus on the reading and constructive discussion of poetry submitted by members of the workshop. It will include an ongoing discussion of poetic structure, weekly reading assignments in contemporary poetry, and a variety of writing experiments. |

Examinations and Assignments: Bi-weekly poetry submissions; constructive oral and written peer critiques; an in-class presentation; three brief response essays; and a final portfolio of 10-15 pages of poems written and revised this semester. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Attendance at and participation in every class are required. Students must also make every effort to attend the readings by visiting poets (usually scheduled on Wednesday evenings, with Q & A sessions on Wednesday afternoons) during the semester.
To apply to this course, please submit 5 double-spaced pages of poetry. Please also submit a cover page in two sections: 1) your name, email address, year in school major (if any), some of your favorite writers and any other influences; 2) a short biographical statement (a paragraph) describing your creative writing background; 3) if you are applying to more than one upper-level creative writing course, you must indicate your order of preference. The application deadline is Monday, April 6, 2015 at 5 pm. (Students who have missed this deadline may submit materials to the instructor by Thursday, August 27, 2015, at 5 pm, in case there are any last-minute openings.) Please submit your materials electronically in a single attachment to ewillis@wesleyan.edu, with Subject Heading: "Intermediate Poetry Submission," using either Microsoft word (.doc or .docx) or rich-text format (.rtf) for your attachment.
