Examinations and Assignments: Bi-weekly poetry submissions; constructive oral and written peer critiques; an in-class presentation; three brief response essays; and a final portfolio of 10-15 pages of poems written and revised this semester. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Note: The department chair will oversee applications until instructor is hired.
Attendance at and participation in every class are required. Students must also make every effort to attend the readings by visiting poets (Q & A sessions at 4:15 on Wednesday afternoons; readings at 8:00 p.m.).
Application Process: (1) Go to the Creative Writing page of the English Department website at: http://www.wesleyan.edu/english/Writing%20.html and complete the online application. (2)Submit the following to Liz Tinker at etinker@wesleyan.edu: 5 double-spaced pages of poetry with a cover page in two sections: (a) your name, email address, year in school, major (if any), some of your favorite writers and any other influences; (b) a short biographical statement (a paragraph) describing your creative writing background. The application deadline has been extended to Friday, April 8 at noon. Please submit your materials electronically in a single attachment with the subject heading "POI Application". Please use either Microsoft Word or rich text format for your attachment, with the file name: "Last Name-First Initial-Course Number" (e.g. Smith-J-ENGL336.docx). You will be notified electronically of the status of your application during preregistration. Students who have missed this deadline may submit materials to etinker@wesleyan.edu by August 27, 2016, at 5 p.m., in case there are any last-minute openings.
Students may NOT take this course and another English creative writing workshop concurrently.
This course contributes to the Theory & Literary Forms and Creative Writing concentrations of the English major. |
