This course is designed to allow students to conduct supervised research in the area of the cognitive psychology of reasoning and decision making. Working as a team with the instructor and other members of the research group, students will undertake a semester-long experimental research project on a topic in reasoning and decision making. |

Major Readings:
Reading lists will be designed for each project. Students will read background chapters and recent journal articles over the course of the term.

Examinations and Assignments:
The class will meet in a weekly seminar to formulate plans for studies, and to provide updates on experiments being conducted by members of the group. Drafts of sections of a research report will be completed throughout the term. A final version of the research project in journal-article format will be due at the end of the term. Students will be expected to participate in all aspects of the research project including developing materials, collecting data, data analysis, etc., and to take responsibility for the successful completion of the project. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Permission will be given to sophomore/junior PSYC/NSB majors who excelled in Cognitive Psychology (PSYC220) and/or Psychology of Decision Making (PSYC322), and ideally Statistics (PSYC 200 or another), and who demonstrate strong interest in the topic. Interested individuals should send an email to the professor ideally during the first three days of preregistration with an unofficial transcript (or list of relevant coursework), any other relevant information or experiences (e.g., other research experience / facility with computers) and a short statement of reasons for interest. Because this course has very limited seats, students are also encouraged to discuss the course with the professor in her office hours in advance of preregistration. |
