The goal of this course is to introduce students to basic research strategies and methods, with a focus on quantitative methods in developmental psychology. Course materials will focus on the conceptual, design, and analytic issues to research across development. This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and understanding to both conduct and evaluate research. In the service of these goals, students will participate in lectures, readings, and discussion as well as hands-on research experience. |
Essential Capabilities:
Interpretation, Quantitative Reasoning Students will be exposed to a number of different theoretical approaches to research in cognitive development, and will work with experimental data subject to multiple interpretations that lead to different conclusions about the nature of children's development.
Students will work with, and learn to conduct quantitative analysis on, data from a number of paradigms in cognitive development.

Examinations and Assignments: Group work on a semester-long research project, with a final research report. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: This course requires experience with at least one of the following: cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, prior experimental research experience, prior work with young children. Psych stats is recommended but not required. |
