A classroom discussion of biological, chemical and psychological aspects of mental illness as well as weekly volunteering at Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH). The class will be subdivided into four working groups of four students each. A mix of biology and other science majors is desired for each working group. |

Examinations and Assignments:
Short weekly assignments for classroom discussion. Evaluation of clinical experience by CVH supervisor and instructor. One group paper on all aspects of a mental illness with subsections written by identified individuals. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Open to Biology and other science majors by permission. The student must complete training course (4 hours) for CVH volunteers and commit one or more blocks of time (3 hours) that will be available for volunteering. These requirements must be met during the preceding semester. |
