Major Readings: Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore
Students must provide copies of their own stories to their classmates at least a week in advance of the discussion of them. There will be a significant stream of published short stories by a variety of authors as well.

Examinations and Assignments: Several short exercises; one longer story (10-15 pages) and a revision of that story; an in-class presentation on one of the readings. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Students are also required to attend several events per semester with visiting writers (usually scheduled on Wednesday afternoons at 4:15 and evenings at 8:00 p.m.).
The application deadline is Friday, November 4th at 4:00 PM.
Application Process: (1) Go to the Creative Writing page of the English Department website at: http://www.wesleyan.edu/english/writing and complete the online application. (2) Submission materials: 5 double-spaced pages of prose (preferably fiction). Please also submit a cover page in two sections: 1) your name, email address, year in school, major (if any), some of your favorite writers and any other influences; 2) a short biographical statement (a paragraph) describing your history with and interest in fiction writing, or other creative writing background. 3) Please submit your materials electronically in a single attachment to Valda Ramdial at vramdial@wesleyan.edu with the subject heading "POI Application". Please use either Microsoft Word or rich text format for your attachment, with the file name: "Last Name-First Initial-Course Number" (e.g. Smith-J-ENGL325.docx). You will be notified electronically of the status of your application by the end of the Planning Period.
Students may not take this course and another creative writing course concurrently. This course contributes to the English major Theory and Literary Forms and Creative Writing concentrations. |
