Major Readings: Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore
Students must provide copies of their own stories to their classmates at least a week in advance of the discussion of them. There will be a significant stream of published short stories by a variety of authors as well.

Examinations and Assignments:
Several short exercises; one longer story (10-15 pages) and a revision of that story; an in-class presentation on one of the readings. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Meetings with and readings by visiting writers will be an additional element of the course.
The application deadline is Friday, November 3rd at 4:00 PM.
Application Process: (1) Go to the Creative Writing page of the English Department website at: http://www.wesleyan.edu/english/writing, click on the Google Form link and complete the online application. (2) At the bottom of the form please upload the following in one document: 5 double-spaced pages of prose (preferably fiction). Please also submit a cover page in two sections: 1) your name, email address, year in school, major (if any), some of your favorite writers and any other influences; 2) a short biographical statement (a paragraph) describing your history with and interest in fiction writing, or other creative writing background. Please use either Microsoft Word or rich text format for your attachment, with the file name: "Last Name-First Initial-Course Number" (e.g. Smith-J-ENGL339.docx). You will be notified electronically of the status of your application by the end of the Planning Period.
Students may not take this course and another creative writing course concurrently. This course contributes to the English major Theory and Literary Forms and Creative Writing concentrations. |
