The study and analysis of the historical background and evolution of the Holocaust and then of the structure of the event itself. Philosophical issues considered include the concept of genocide, specific ethical decisions confronted by victims and bystanders as well as perpetrators, and historiographic questions on "explaining" the Holocaust. The uses and abuses of literary representations of the Holocaust are also considered.
