The course aims to develop an understanding of the applications of the principles of economics to the study of financial markets, instruments, and regulations. The objective is to provide an understanding of the theory of corporate finance and how it applies to the real world. Students will work with financial data and case studies to explore the potential and limitations of financial theory in dealing with real-world problems. |

Major Readings:
Probably Ross, Westerfield and Jaffe "Corporate Finance". Additional short readings will be assigned on the syllabus and distributed in class.

Examinations and Assignments: Probably 5 problem sets, 3 group reports, 1 case study, 1 literature review, and 1 cumulative final exam. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Students who complete ECON 329 cannot receive credit towards the ECON or MECO major for ECON 229, or vice versa depending on your needs for major credit. In addition, students who take ECON 227 will be allowed to take this course if and only if seats are available during add/drop.
At least one nominally optional computer workshop will be scheduled for at least two times outside of regular class meetings. It will be difficult, if not impossible, to complete the group reports without attending the computer workshops. |
