Course Cluster: Service-Learning |
The study of the psychology of reading encompasses many aspects of human cognition: from sensation and perception to comprehension and reasoning. This class will provide an overview of research in the psychology of reading. Topics such as word recognition, eye movements during reading, comprehension, learning to read, methods of teaching reading, the brain and reading, reading in different languages, and reading impairments in children and adults will be covered. This course is a service-learning course. Students will be required to volunteer as reading tutors for two hours per week during the semester. |
Essential Capabilities:
Speaking, Writing Students will read scholarly works in the field of the Psychology of Reading and evaluate their writing styles. They will also be required to complete a final paper and an in-class presentation. These two requirements will strengthen the students' ability to speak and write in a scientific discipline.

Psyc 355 is a service-learning class. You must commit to two hours per week of community service with a local school. An application must be filled out to be considered for this class. This application will be emailed to you once you put in a POI request and must be returned to Prof. Juhasz by Friday November 14th. Decisions will be made by Monday November 17th. |
