Crosslisting:
LAST 287 |
One of the characteristics of recent Latin American fiction is the interest in more open, relaxed forms of narration that focus on individual lives against the backdrop of specific social issues. In this course we examine this new experimentation with novelistic form as we look at several matters, including social and political violence, gay and heterosexual subjectivity, literary tradition, as well as artistic production. Several films will also be discussed. |
Essential Capabilities:
Interpretation, Writing Through close reading of recent Latin American novels and discussion of cultural issues , students will have the opportunity to focus on the manner in which they interpret texts and build arguments. The four required papers, spread out over the semester, will permit students to hone their writing skills in Spanish. Since it is expected that students will participate in classroom discussion, they will also have the opportunity to practice their spoken Spanish.
