This course is listed under the Certificate of Social, Cultural, and Critical Theory, and there will required heavy amounts of theoretic readings. All interested students must send a two-page (single-spaced) paper to the instructor (mnakamura@wesleyan.edu) that answers the following question: Choose one theorist (e.g. Freud, Derrida, Foucault, etc.) and discuss how their theory may be used to analyze the mode of horror. You can examine a horror film/text of your choice, if you like. If you are not familiar with theory but are interested in learning more about it, send the instructor a two-page close analysis of a horror film/fiction of your choice. |
