This workshop offers students with prior experience writing nonfiction a chance to analyze a wide range of published texts, develop and revise new work of their own, and collectively consider the possibilities of the genre. |

Examinations and Assignments:
Three formal submissions.
Four short writing assignments.
One oral presentation.
A final Revision. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Student Option Grading Mode: If planning to pursue the Creative Writing path in English, students should choose the graded option for this class to fulfill requirements.
Meetings with and readings by visiting writers will be an additional element of the course.
The application deadline is the Monday after the start of pre-registration at 5:00 PM.
Application Process: (1) Go to the Creative Writing page of the English Department website at: https://www.wesleyan.edu/english/Writing%20.html, click on the Google Form link and complete the online application. (2) At the bottom of the form please upload the following in one document: 5 double-spaced pages of prose (preferably nonfiction), a cover page that includes the following: a) your name, email address, year in school, major (if any), the number of this course, some of your favorite writers and any other influences, b) a short biographical statement (a paragraph) describing your creative writing background, including courses taken. Please use either Microsoft Word or rich text format for your attachment, with the file name: "Last Name-First Initial-Course Number" (e.g. Smith-J-ENGL326.docx). You will be notified electronically of the status of your application by the end of the Planning Period.
Contributes to fulfillment of ENGL major requirements:
Class of 22: Advanced Workshop CW concentration, Theory and Literary Forms concentration, elective.
Class of 23 and beyond: CW requirement, CW 300-level course, CW upper-level CW workshop, elective.
The English department highly recommends that students be enrolled in only one CW course in a semester. If you are admitted to more than one CW course, the department requests that you choose one and let the instructors know during Adjustment Period. By doing so you will be considerate of instructors and other students.
