This workshop offers students with some background in writing a chance to experiment with essay forms, develop and revise their own new work, discuss a wide range of published texts, and collectively consider the possibilities of the genre. |

Several short essays, one long essay, revisions, short presentation, regular feedback on peers' writing, final portfolio of all written work |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Student Option Grading Mode: If planning to pursue the Creative Writing path in English, students should choose the Graded option for this class to fulfill requirements.
Attendance at and participation in every class are required. Students must also make every effort to attend events with visiting writers.
Pre-registration Application Deadline: The Monday following the start of pre-registration by 5:00 PM.
Application Process:
(1) Go to the Creative Writing page of the English Department website at: http://www.wesleyan.edu/english/Writing%20.html and complete the online application.
(2)Upload the following at the end of the Google Form: 5 double-spaced pages of prose (preferably nonfiction) with a cover page in two sections:
(a) your name, email address, year in school, major (if any), some of your favorite writers and any other influences; (b) a short biographical statement (a paragraph) describing your history with and interest in writing, including courses taken. (c) Your ranking of the Creative Writing courses to which you are applying, if more than this workshop. Please use the file naming convention as follows: ""Last Name-First Initial-Course Number"" (e.g. Smith-J-ENGL325.docx). You will be notified electronically of the status of your application during preregistration or early in Adjustment. Students who have missed this deadline may submit materials directly to dvogel@wesleyan.edu later in April or by the end of August, in case there are any last-minute openings.
It is highly recommended that students be enrolled in only one Creative Writing course in a semester. If you are admitted to more than one Creative Writing course, we request you choose one and let the instructors know during Adjustment Period. Please be serious about your choice for the consideration of instructors and other students.
Classes of '21 & '22: This course contributes to the Theory & Literary Forms and the Creative Writing concentration requirements of the English major.
Class of 2023 and beyond: This course fulfills the Creative Writing core requirement and contributes to the fulfillment of the Creative Writing path of the English major.
