Essential Capabilities:
Interpretation In this course, students will learn to interpret historical data, literary works, and the social theory generated by the Gay Liberation movement. One of the objects of the course will be to enhance understanding of the variety of the uses and methods of interpretation.

Wriings by Paul Goodman, Adrienne Rich, Frank O'Hara, Yvonne Rainer, Jeffrey Weeks, John D'Emilio, Gayle Rubin, James Baldwin; movement periodicals including GCN, FAG RAG, GAY SUNSHINE. ON OUR BACKS; etc.

Examinations and Assignments: Three papers, 4-5 pages each. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Punctual and regular attendance. Willing participation in classroom discussion. This courses fulfills the English Department's Research Option requirement for Senior thesis writers and the Literature of Difference requirement for the English major. Those who elect to fulfill the research requirement will write a fourth paper of about 20 pages. |
