A history of the art and careers of artists in America who chose sculpture as a primary medium of expression. Topics will include public sculpture and government patronage; sculpture and the landscape; patterns of training among American sculptors; and the work of expatriate artists.

Essential Capabilities: Interpretation, Writing
In this course students will be expected to engage in the critical analysis of works of art and literature as cultural texts, studying in particular the modes and circumstances of production and reception.
