This course will be an intensive and active investigation of a variety of plays that call for a heightened, nonnaturalistic acting approach. Beginning with monologues and scene studies and culminating in a group performance, students will examine the physical, vocal, and analytical demands of performing the works of writers who have explored and expanded form and language. The working texts will be drawn from a range of modern and contemporary playwrights, including Sophie Treadwell, Samuel Beckett, Harold Pinter, Sarah Kane, Suzan-Lori Parks, Charles Mee, and others. |

This advanced acting class will require substantial rehearsal time outside of class. Please contact the instructor in advance with any questions or concerns.
Admission is by audition/interview. Multiple audition/interview days are being offered between November 4th - 16th. Sign up on the Call Board, Theater & Dance Studios. Please prepare two monologues, each NO LONGER than two minutes. One that is non-naturalistic (Shakespeare, The Greeks, other Elizabethan playwrights, Moliere, even poetry, Beckett, contemporary writers who write in a heightened way) and a second of your choice. Reminder: this is an audition interview, so be prepared to discuss your approach to the pieces you selected.
Acting I (THEA245) is pre-requisite. Acting II (THEA285) is encouraged as a pre-requisite. |
