This seminar aims to provide an intensive introduction to what emotions are and how they influence our relations with other people. The seminar will cover general theory on emotion as well as theory on specific emotions (e.g., anger, shame, envy, humiliation). As emotions are multicomponential processes, we will examine how the social context shapes different components of the emotion process, e.g., phenomenological experience, regulation, expression of emotion. Moreover, we will explore how emotions operate at the individual, interpersonal, intergroup, and cultural level of analysis. The main book is a reader that includes influential, classic articles on emotion. This reader will be complemented by contemporary journal articles and book chapters. |

Essential Capabilities:
Speaking, Writing
This seminar includes an oral presentation. This presentation will allow students to practice speaking and elaborating arguments in front of an audience. This seminar also includes a writing assignment (final project). This assignment aims to provide students with an opportunity to improve their writing skills.

(2) A final project. This project involves a literature review of research on an emotion of your choice (e.g., happiness, pride, anger, guilt). |
