MB&B 111
Spring 2009
| Section:
01
|
In this course we will explore the blending of reproduction and genetics exemplified by developments such as in vitro fertilization, third-party reproduction, prenatal testing or genetic disease, prenatal sex selection, embryonic stem cell research, and the future possibilities of human cloning and the alteration of embryonic genes to create "designer babies." We will begin by examining the basic biology underlying human reproduction and genetics. This will lay the foundation for a critical discussion of the scientific, social, and ethical concerns raised by these interventions. |
