This course will run in the style of an experimental seminar. Students will explore the use of LLMs for engineering software and producing software-generated artifacts such as animations. Students are expected to arrive with maturity in software development. Between meetings, students will use LLMs to work on a quick succession of open-ended individual and group projects; the pace reflects the premise that habituation arises more readily from a breadth of differently flavored projects than from depth within a single longer undertaking. In-class discussions will consist of collective pooling of the insights and tips that came up in the past week¿s experiments. The aim of the seminar is to update our working model of everyday technical problem-solving to include workflows that have only recently become feasible. Through a generous gift from Anthropic, each student will receive three months of access to a Claude Max plan, covering most of the computational costs of the course. Enrollment is by instructor permission. The course will run on a CR/U basis. In your POI request, please describe what prior experience you have with software development, either from classes or from other projects. This Special Topics course is designed both for non-COMP-majors who wish to pursue some topic in computer science beyond the 100-level introductory classes, and for COMP majors who wish to learn about these topics. This course does not fulfill any requirements for the COMP major. |
