PHIL 270
Spring 2017
Section: 01
This course may be repeated for credit.
Crosslisting: ENVS 270
Certificates: Environmental Studies

How should we understand our relation to the more-than-human world? What does it mean to act responsibly within our ecological situation? This course will cover both conceptual questions about nature, ecology, and value, and practical questions about how to respond to climate change, habitat loss, resource depletion, and other ecological problems. In particular, we will challenge the temptation to idealize "pure" nature as distinct from the site of human practices. As a result, we must consider the complex interrelationships between ecological concerns and concerns about social justice.
