Emotions have been the focus of much research in psychology, sociology, anthropology, and philosophy. These disciplines offer unique theoretical and methodological perspectives to understand the role of emotion in social and cultural life. This course will include book chapters and articles that represent the unique contributions of psychological, sociological, anthropological, and philosophical work on emotion. Emphasis will be given to both theory and research. The course will emphasize different levels of analysis in the study of emotion: interpersonal, intragroup (e.g., emotions in family relations), intergroup, structural, and cultural. |
Essential Capabilities:
Speaking, Writing This seminar includes an oral presentation. This presentation will allow students to practice speaking and elaborating arguments in front of an audience. This seminar also includes weekly reaction papers and a final paper. These assignments aim to provide students with an opportunity to improve their writing skills.
