Examinations and Assignments: 5 writing exercises and 1st, 2nd and 3rd drafts of a short story or novel chapter During the first half of the semester, students read assigned short stories to discuss particular craft questions and answers. There will also be short writing assignments weekly, until spring break. In the second half, each student will produce a short story or the opening chapter of a novel, for workshop-style discussion (requiring editorial skill from each student and a written critique of the other students' work), using every element discussed in class. There are no other papers or exams. |
