Henry James and the Giant Peach: Teaching the Fundamentals of Literary Analysis ENGL 371 Fall 2012 Section: 01   This course is designed to give students a chance to apply their knowledge and skills in literary analysis to the teaching of reading comprehension strategies to older elementary school children at Macdonough Elementary in Middletown. Each student will spend two hours a week working with small groups of children using key skills and terms learned in the major. Weekly readings will consist largely of scholarly articles on narrative theory, pedagogical practice, and the relationship between the teaching of elementary school reading skills and the undergraduate study of literary texts. Students will write weekly reflections on both the course content and their teaching sessions. They will also write a final paper for the course.
