In this class we will read three long novels, from three different societies and eras, for the pleasure and enlightenment of their contents and style; and also to examine the unique phenomenon of long-form attention to a vast fictional world. |

Examinations and Assignments: Students will keep a reading journal, complete two creative imitations (5 pages each), and write either a critical essay or a work of original short fiction (10 pages) inspired by questions raised by the course texts. |
