Reading material will be provided each week by the faculty member organizing the discussion.

Examinations and Assignments: Students are asked to complete modest weekly readings, post remarks or questions on the class Moodle, and be prepared to engage in active discussions. Students will choose one of the subjects discussed for a short term paper, required to be completed by exam week.
Grading will be based on participation and the final paper.

Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Students should have completed at least one semester of an introductory science course, and/or taken AP classes in the sciences and/or math in high school. All students majoring in the sciences are welcome, but the course is mainly aimed at first and second year students. One semester of this "Research Frontiers" seminar (either CIS221 or 222) is required for students seeking to join the College of Integrative Sciences (CIS). Potential CIS students are encouraged to take both courses to hear about the variety of research conducted in the NSM division. |
