Sophomore Colloquium for Declaring Majors
FILM 305
Spring 2023
| Section:
01
|
This class is designed for sophomores who have completed the CFILM gateway courses and wish to deepen their exploration of film art. The curriculum aims to draw connections across different eras, origins, and story forms by linking films in comparative units.
Units might include: - forms of adaptation (silent to sound, stage to screen) - applications of non-linear narrative structures - defining internal vs. external conflicts - challenges to audience alignment around "difficult" characters - stories based around migration, community, family
We're searching for different cinematic solutions to shared questions, or different application of shared cinematic tools. Through close viewing of films from many eras and origins, in-class discussions, and analytical papers, students will strengthen their engagement with the tools of cinema in preparation for continued study in film . |
