Nonprofit Boards: Theory and Practice supports students in their learning about the nonprofit sector (its role in society, the challenges it confronts, and the primary roles and responsibilities of nonprofit boards) via class meetings/discussions, a residency with a local nonprofit, and student support of a project assigned by a partnering organization. |

Examinations and Assignments:
Students will be assigned weekly reading, write monthly on the readings, guest lectures, and their board experience. The major assignment will be the project assigned by host organization and end of the year reflection. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
This course is year long (.5 credit per semester) and includes a community-based component where students are matched with a local organization. Students must commit to the entire year and complete an application, which can be found here: https://www.wesleyan.edu/jccp/boardresidency.html. This course will meet regularly at the beginning of the semester and then class time meetings will lessen as the focus shifts to the specific project. |
