Readings wiil include Elizabeth Kolbert's "THE SIXTH EXTINCTION", David Haskell's "THE FOREST UNSEEN", as well as many examples of writing from "THE NEW YORKER" and "THE NEW YORK TIMES".

Examinations and Assignments: Assignments may include a news brief, a quick, light report on a quirky scientific discovery; a traditional op-ed or personal essay on an environmental subject; a script for brief narrated video; and editing choices for 90 seconds of video drawn from research. Also, a non-traditional blog post based on news conference; a quick, informal response and analysis of online, or telephone news conference; and a profile of a researcher or an environmentalist. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: This course is taught by science journalist James Gorman, editor of the New York Times Science section and producer of the New York Times videos, ScienceTake.
