Major Readings: Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore
There are no assigned textbooks for this course. Readings will consist of articles and book chapters (1~2 per session), and will address topics in Japanese history and musical expression, as well as topics in area studies, ethnomusicology, and so on. These will be furnished to students in PDF format. Students are responsible for all readings. Refer to course syllabus for comprehensive list of readings.

Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Japanese language ability is helpful but not required. Students will be required to listen to and comment upon Japanese songs. Listening must be done before class meetings, in preparation for discussion. Translated lyrics will be provided by the instructor. |
