Examinations and Assignments: 4 writing exercises, 1 short story During the first half of the semester, students read assigned short stories to discuss particular craft questions and answers. There will also be short writing assignments weekly, until spring break. In the second half, each student will produce a short story or the opening chapter of a novel, for workshop-style discussion (requiring editorial skill from each student and a written critique of the other students' work), using every element discussed in class. There are no other papers or exams. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Students will submit to the instructor (abloom@wesleyan.edu) a short letter describing their interest in the course and a suitable writing sample. There are no prerequisites, but people who have never written fiction to be read will find themselves in over their heads. Deadline: TBA. Students admitted will be notified by TBA. After that date, students may continue submitting applications if there are spaces remaining in the course. Please contact the instructor. |
