This course will focus on macroeconomic theories and practices of growth and development by using the Sub-Saharan African economies as case studies. The course will be both a retrospective and prospective analysis of the Sub-Saharan African economies. In particular, it will attempt to provide some answers to various questions such as: What are the determinants of long-run growth? Why has Sub-Saharan Africa lagged behind the rest of the world in terms of economic growth and development? What are the economic explanations and implications of some of the conflicts in Sub-Saharan Africa? What are the long run growth implications of foreign aid, remittances, and immigration? |
