This is a seminar for science majors who want to develop skills in communicating science to non-scientists, by writing about environmental science topics. The course will concentrate on writing, public presentations and interviews. Students will read scholarly articles, interview scientists, and/or conduct independent research to write articles, essays and op-eds. Each week students will take alternating roles as writers and editors. The course does count towards the E&ES major and is only open to science majors. |

| Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Students interested in participating in this course must be junior or senior, science or COE majors. To be considered, between June 1 and July 1, please submit the following information to Suzanne OConnell (soconnell@wesleyan.edu). 1) Name, 2) Major, 3) Why you are interested in science communication (250 words max), 4) Any previous science writing or communication experience (excluding class term papers). Participants should be aware that a few classes may be conducted via Skype as the professor will need to do some traveling in the fall in conjunction with her participation in IODP Expedition 382, "Iceberg Alley." Students accepted into the course will be informed by July 5. |
