This course is a workshop designed to introduce the art, craft, and business of essay writing. You will be reading and discussing essays of varying length and structure, as well as writing essays and workshopping those essays in class. |

Examinations and Assignments: You will write two long essays over the course of the workshop -- a 1000-2000 word personal essay as a midterm and a 3000-5000 word essay of cultural criticism as a final. Over the second half of the semester we will read the midterm essays and offer notes during class. You¿ll also be assigned shorter (~500 word) writing exercises week to week. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: This course contributes to the Creative Writing and Theory & Literary Forms concentrations of the English major. |
