THEA 391
Fall 2026
| Section:
01
|
This course combines seminar-style survey with studio-style making to explore the power and potential of site-specific and social practice performance works. Student work will be informed and contextualized by encounter with architect Maya Lin's Vietnam Veteran's Memorial; social practice practitioners Paul Ramirez Jonas and Mammalian Diving Reflex; activist performance artist Tania Bruguera; sculptor Felix Gonzales Torres; among others. Throughout the semester students will practice reading performance as a set of relationships to participate in rather than a product to consume. The class culminates in either a final paper or final, sited project (individual or collaborative) on campus or in Middletown. |
