This course will cover a wide range of topics of current interest that will show how chemistry is ever present in the world. In particular, the course will discuss the molecular basis of topics such as crime scene DNA testing, COVID-19 detection and vaccine development, the physical effects of drinking alcohol, and more. |

There will be multiple short reading responses, two larger scaffolded papers (including outline, drafts and revision), classroom discussions, and a final writing exercise. |

This course falls within the general education framework, and students need not be science majors or have a substantial background in chemistry or biology. This course is designed to be a good option whereby non-science majors can fulfill their NSM general education expectations |
